According to CBS Sports analyst Jon Heyman and Fox Sports analyst Ken Rosenthal have both reported that the Cincinnati Reds have signed free agent catcher Miguel Olivo to a minor league contract and free agent relief pitcher Manny Para.
When you look at the deal for Miguel Olivo it seems more than likely that if Miguel Olivo comes back and performs above standards during spring training. The Reds will have up and coming catcher in the organization Devin Mesoraco start down at the Reds Triple-A affiliate the Louisville Bats.
As for Manny Parra it seems like he will be locked in to start the 2013 MLB Season at the Major League level. Parra signed a 1 year 1 million dollar deal with the Reds Friday but Parra can make an extra $400,000 with appearance bonuses. Parra this past November was non-tendered by the Milwaukee Brewers thus ending his 5 season tenure with the team. During his time with the Brewers Parra accumulated a 26-33 record, 479 strikeouts and a ERA of 5.12. Parra will be taken in and used as the Reds early inning relief pitcher this coming season.
