According to Jeff Passan on Twitter, the Chicago Cubs sign former Pittsburgh Pirates and Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Hisanori Takahashi to a minor league contract.
The deal is giving Hisanori Takahashi an opportunity to make the Chicago Cubs regular season roster by inviting him to the Cubs spring training. Last season Takahashi spent the season with both the Los Angeles Angels and the Pittsburgh Pirates serving as the teams late inning reliever but did not raise any eyebrows in his 51 game appearances.
In the split season with the Angels and Pirates Hisanori Takahashi posted a dreadful 5.54 ERA with 52 strikeouts.
Nation Sports Blog owner Justin Godsey states that Hisanori Takahashi will have a huge opportunity to make the Cubs roster even if he is used just to provide depth in the Cubs bullpen.
